Fed Cup regional tournament - NZ finishes fifth

The New Zealand Fed Cup team, in association with Greymouth Petroleum, rebounded after two early losses and beat Indonesia and Thailand, to finish fifth at the Asia/Oceania Regional Tournament which finished in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on the weekend. A good recovery. 

Team members Marina Erakovic and Sacha Jones, with travelling coach Marcel Vos, have  gone on to the play in the $220,000 WTA tournament in Pattaya, Thailand. Erakovic is in the main draw, while Jones is in the qualifying rounds where she has won her first match, in three sets 3-6 6-3 6-1, over Shengan Sun from China. 

First up on court today at 3pm (Thailand time), Jones will play her final qualifying match against local wild card Nicha Lertpitaksinchai.

Last match of the day will be Marina Erakovic in her main draw doubles match, paired with Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand, playing against Carly Gullickson (USA) and Nicole Kriz (AUS)

Vera Zvonereva from Russia is the top seed and defending champion at the PTT Pattaya Open Tournament.

Ellen Barry, the third member of the NZ Fed Cup Team, has gone on to Europe to continue playing in the ITF Pro Circuit Tour there.
