The first round of the Boys’ and Girls’ Singles Main Draw was played yesterday (Monday).
It was a tough first day for the young Kiwis with Auckland’s Adam Lee going down Sai Kartik Nakireddi (IND) 6-2 6-1 in the first round.
Jaden Grinter (Waikato/Bays) had a tight match but lost to Chieh-Fu Wang from Taipei 6-4 6-4 in his first round match.

Ben McLachlan (Southern) and Barrett Franks (Canterbury, above) received byes in the first round. McLachlan will play against Robin Olin (SWE) in the second round. Frank’s opponent in the second round will be qualifier James Duckworth from Australia.

In the girls, Katherine Westbury (formerly Canterbury, above) won her first round match convincingly against qualified Manisha Foster (GBR) 6-0 6-3. Her opponent in the second round will be 12th seeded Ting-Fei Juan from Taipei.
Briar Preston (Southern, homepage picture) received a bye in the first round. She will play against Kobkanok Upapong from Thailand in the second round.
All second round matches will be played today (Tuesday).
